Official Opening of Singapore Writers Festival 2007

Earlier tonight I attended the Official Opening of the Singapore Writers Festival.

It was held at The Arts House. The Arts House was initially build as a house. It then became the Court House, then the Old Court House, then the Assembly House, then the Parliament House. Today is it an Arts Centre. If you are interested, click here to read more.

This photo shows the original Parliamentary Debating Chamber. Today, the hall can be booked for private functions, just like this one tonight for the Official Opening.

This is Philip Jeyaretnam, the National Arts Council, Council Member giving the Opening Speech. (I am using the picture because there's a clear view of the backdrop, so I can have less explanation! :-) )

The Theme this year is Crossings. There is a great line up of programme for the next 9 days. If you are free, attend the different programmes. More details can be found at: http://www.singaporewritersfestival.com/

Oh yes, if you only got time for 1 event for this festival, you know which one to go to!

The Orchard Road Light Up Story

The Orchard Road Light up is an annual event that attracts both locals and tourist to the Orchard Road shopping belt. If you happen to be in Singapore right now, you should not be sitting in front your computer now, go take a look!

Here are some more photos of the annual light up. I posted some the lights few days ago. This is the main arch of the light up.

If you walk further away, you get to see the entrance arch and also the rows and more rows of lights behind.

So...., what's the story? (You mean there's a story?? yes!)
Read on....

You can also visit the website that is specially created for the light up by the Singapore Tourism Board. The theme this year is Christmas in the Tropics.

Friends from overseas, have you heard of the famous Orchard Road Christmas light up?
Locals, how many hundreds of pictures have you also taken of the light up? :-)
