Dans Festival 2010

The Dans Festival 2010 is on-going. There are quite a few free events if you are not sure if you want to pay for something like 'arts' that is alien to you. ;-)

It's on from 8 - 17 October.
This was one of the free performance at Esplanade.

Durian Spikes and balloons

Do you sense something odd here?
Spiky roofs and balloons = loud bursts! LOL...

Durian Spikes and balloons

Somehow, the photos shows that the balloons likes the spikes and leaning towards it. :-)

The people in the photo, most of them are working in the finance and corporate sectors. Rumour is that those who participate might not get the 'axe'.

Thirst

Thirsty?

A mobile kiosk at the Esplanade Theatres. Opens mostly at night.

I like the squarish round design of this kiosk.

The Esplanade Roof and the Singapore F1 Grandstand Seats...

I thought these covered F1 grandstand chairs looks similar to the Esplanade Theatre's 'durian spikes'.

Maybe it's only my eyes...

Beauty World.. cha cha cha...

Today, my sis and I went to a very Singaporean musical, called "Beauty World".

We loved it! The theme song, "Beauty World... Cha Cha Cha" has been ringing in my head for hours now! (help!!) It doesn't help that we bought the CD and listening to it right now while I am typing this. :-p

A snap of the program cover, since no photography is allowed during the show.

This is prove that I really watched it! ha ha ha...
We bought the tickets very long ago, so we had the 20% off for the matinee.
Though quite an expensive ticket, but it was good!

Do you all have a tune that rings in your head the whole day?
If so, which tune is it today? haha...

if you want to know listen to that tune in my head, you can listen to it here.

of the esplanade, tourist and Beauty World

This is the Esplanade Theatres that appeared on the Theme Day photo. You can see tourist on the boat all standing up taking photos of the unique shape building. No one seem to be facing me!

Those white balls on the water are Wish Balls, where wishes were written for the Countdown party held at this site a few days ago.

I will be going there for a musical next week! It has a very 'beautiful' name, it's called "Beauty World". It's a Singaporean production.

It's about a girl called Ivy Chan Poh Choo from a small town called Batu Pahat, coming to Singapore to look for her long-lost father. Yes, Batu Pahat does exist in reality! Check out this town blog at www.batupahat.org

Esplanade Library

Just a quick photo today. A few days ago, remember when I took the merlion at night, I also took this.

Hardworking people at the Esplanade Library doing research in the night.

It's one of the Singapore National Library branches that is dedicated to the Arts.
It has lots of books, music scores, DVDs, CDs all related to the Arts. Yes, you can borrow all of them.

The other library I know that has music scores etc is the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory Library at NUS.

What's your favourite genre of books that you borrow from your library?

Crocs - Footwear or Artwork?

Wow. What can you do with Crocs other than wearing them? You can make artwork out of them! The artwork is on display at the underground walkway between CityLink Mall and The Esplanade.

It is called Artventure and its by the Young Talents from Boxed Out I, II, III, and co-curated by Studio Haroobee. Hmmm I have never heard of it until yesterday.

If you would like to admire the arts by the kids, head down there from now till 2 Jan 2008. I am quite impressed. They have other things other than crocs work. :-)

Hmmm anyone of you wear crocs? Well, I don't.

Art @ Esplande

Some modern art works at the Esplanade.

Another place to appreciate arts in Singapore - The Esplande.
Can you figure out what is it?

Late comers at the Esplanade

This is quite a common scene in Singapore. People who bought tickets to attend a musical, play, show,etc.. and always turn up late.

I took this picture just outside the Esplanade windows, it's so brightly lit, you can just look in, and you know instantly these are late comers.

I have this pet peeve against people who turn out late and distract others when they move in.

Fellow DPs from all over the world, does this happen in your city too?
Fellow people in Singapore, do late comers irritate you too?

Grasshopper Eyes, view of durian from Swissotel Stamfort

The other day a good friend from Penang came over. Booked him a hotel at the tallest hotel in town. So when I gave him the keycard to the room when they arrived, took the opportunity to take photos. (DP job hazard?)

Here's a view of the Bay Area from the room. Below is the Esplanade. Instead of looking like a durian from this angle, it looks like grasshoppers eyes right?

Singapore is one of the world's busiest port. So you can see lots of ships behind.

If you want to see more picture of the Esplanade that has been posted, click on the "label" thingy below this tag, blogspot will retrieve all posting here with the Esplanade tag.

p/s: Mr & Mrs BA, hope you all liked the room.

Esplanade Theatre by the Bay Entrance Again

I turned around from yesterday's photo and take it from another direction.

This is facing the entrance of the Esplanade Theatre. There's a big red poster for the coming shows.

Now looking at the little pool of water, you can see a round structure. That's the skylight for the car park below.

Ming, the waters too shallow for anyone to be bathing in it. :)
Zannnie, no below pictures. I did not go down the carpark. Hope this one's ok.

Great Balls by the Bay Entrance

These balls adore the water feature that's in front of the entrance of the Durian.

Actually if you are there, you can see that the water is very shallow only, and part of the 'pool', it is glass, and this allows light into the carpark that is right below.

Hope you enjoy these balls ;-)

Esplanade Durian's that not pokey pokey

We always see pictures of the Esplanade with the spikes. Here's an angle of the famed roof that's not at the pokey sides. People have their gentler side, even buildings too.

Looks like a giant anteater? You should know which hotel is behind now, if you have been following this blog.

This photo is taken from the roof top of Esplanade, which is open to everyone. You can see magnificent views here.

Have a great day today!

Free Concerts by the Bay!

There are free performances that are held at the Esplanade. They are usually held outdoors just beside the beaufiful waterfront.

This is a picture of a group doing sound checks. They are quite good! They were doing an acapella. We noticed that the lady at the most right has very very deep voice. She was doing the drum beats simulation part.

I caught this picture from the rooftop of Esplanade which is open if you wanna take photos of surrounding areas or the sunset.

Ouch! It sure is spiky!

Last Saturday, I pretended to be a tourist. A friend who was from Sydney going back to UK was around, so sis and I was met her and we pretended to be tourist with her.

This is Esplanade, theatres on the bay. It is famous for its spiky durian like roof.

Sis later on went to attend the Singapore Symphony Orchestra's 28th Anniversary Concert. The ticket was courtesy of my colleague who was away in Denver.
