The Cool Blue Merlion
How many Merlions are there in Singapore?
There are a few official ones.

(Viewing on a retina display? This photo will look clearer if you click on the photo and view it in Flickr)
This Merlion at Sentosa changes colour at night.
This is the Blue Version.
Someone I know who works for Sentosa told me it's Cool Blue.
If you are bored in Singapore, go hunt down the Merlions in Singapore and take selfies with them!

Crane Dance
After hearing about it for the longest time, we were there at the right place and right time to watch the Crane Dance.
It's quite interesting to watch two monstrous piece of metal with the help of software and engineering, become so graceful as it 'dances'. It's two cranes courting each other.

Great use of lights, water and fireworks at the end!
I mentioned correct time, because it does not show daily.
Refer here for the show timing.

Luge and Skyride at Sentosa
Few days ago, I was participating in a 'scavanger hunt' at Sentosa and I discovered quite a few interesting things to do. I have never taken the Luge and Skyride at Sentosa and found it very fun!
I probably will come again for this Skyride.
Find it very therapeutic hanging in the air while enjoying the views around.
I always wish Singapore has a nice 24 Celsius temperature all year round. That would make outdoor activities so much more comfortable!
If you would like to find out more, check out this site:

Free Island Admission on Sentosa Day!
What's this machine? It's a machine with a barrier that collects $1 from your EZLink card for entry into Sentosa Island. Took this photo the first time I used it some time ago when the Sentosa Boardwalk opened.
Another popular way of getting into Sentosa Island is by riding the Sentosa Express and that will cost you $3.
Here's a good news! On 10 September 2011, it's Sentosa Day and they are giving free admission on that day!

Here's a press release that might interest you:
Mark your calendar for 10 September 2011 to enjoy free island admission on Sentosa Day! As part of the first-ever large-scale charity initiative, Sentosa Gives, the public can enjoy free entry via the Sentosa Boardwalk and Sentosa Express from 7am to 11.59pm. This is Sentosa’s way of thanking all guests for their strong support over the years.
Catch the fascinating performances of 12 international buskers at the Sentosa Buskers Festival on the same day, and do your part for charity by donating generously after each performance. All proceeds will go towards Community Chest and the 70 charities under its care.
Date: 10 September 2011, Saturday
Time: 7am to 11.59pm
*Travel in by: Sentosa Boardwalk (exit near Serenity, VivoCity, Level 1), Sentosa Express (board at VivoCity, Level 3)
(Free island admission is not applicable to drive-ins by passenger cars, taxis and other vehicles)
Enquiries:1800-SENTOSA (736-8672)

Battlestar Galactica Re-opens
Adrenalin Junkie take note! Battlestar Galactica re-opens!
I was at Universal Studio just before Chinese New Year with my brother and his fiance. Guess what I saw? A sign at Battlestar Galactica saying it will re-open soon, they are doing test cycles.
Suddenly I heard some sound from above. I looked up at saw that they were testing the rides!
The above, Battlestar Galactica: Cylon. (on the blue track)

Can you see Battlestar Galactica: Human (on the red track)?
As an Universal Studio Singapore Annual Pass holder, I got an email invite asking us to go for the ride before it reopens to everyone on 21 Feb 2011. Tomorrow (Friday) and Saturday night, annual pass holders will be the first few to scream their lungs out!
Which do you think is more fun or scary? Human or Cylon?
My brother was so unhappy that this attraction is only reopening when he is now back in UK.

Walking into Sentosa
A few weeks ago, I read that the Sentosa Boardwalk has opened.
Just before Chinese New Year, I decided try the walk, and walked into Sentosa to meet my brother who was having fun at Universal Studios.

I was wondering if it was free or do I have to pay the usual admission charges to enter Sentosa when I walk in. It seems I only need to pay $1 at the turnstile just before going inside Sentosa Island where Resorts World is.
It was quite a nice walk. There were so many kinds of flowers and plants that they have planted along the way, and they were divided into different themes. It was good that the weather was not very hot and the breeze was cooling.
If you like the sun, you can walk in the open air part of the boardwalk.
If you are in a rush or do not like the sun, there's the covered version and a travelator to save you the walking!
I was in a rush to get inside Universal Studios to maximise my time inside, so I 'walked' on the travelator all the way in. It probably took me around 10 minutes or less to 'walk' (it was more like standing) in.
Tips to save money on your trip inside Sentosa:
I would recommend taking the boardwalk in and pay only $1. When you are coming out, take the Monorail out.
(You only pay once for the entrance fee to get into Sentosa. Boardwalk costs $1, Sentosa or RWS Buses costs $2 and if you take the Monorail, $3. When you are leaving the island, there are no more payment to take any form of transport out. So take the monorail out, it's the fastest and most convenient way out)

Universal Studio Singapore - Canopy Flyer Queue
In the last two weeks, I have been inside Universal Studios Singapore twice!
(We treated a friend to her birthday here and also bought my brother and his fiance tickets as belated birthday presents. January was a cheap month to buy tickets as gifts because there was 20% off the ticket prices if you pay using a 'certain' credit card)
The Canopy Flyer at Lost World USS happens to be one of the many rides I enjoy.
It's such a short ride, but the waiting time is so long because it's so popular.
Just look at the queue! Guess what? Old folks seems to like it too! I see grandma in saris taking the ride too!
The best time to take this ride is at 6 PM! At around 6 PM, there are no queue and you can take the ride over and over again with no waiting time. Get down the ride, go back to the entrance, walk up the ramp and you are next!

The 'fat' Adam and Eve at Resorts World Sentosa
It seems that Botero's works are quite popular in Singapore. You can see it at many places all over Singapore.
The lastest might be at Resorts World Sentosa. I took this a few week's ago. It's located at the lobby between Crockfords Tower Hotel and Hotel Michael.

A similar work by Botero, I think also named Adam and Eve is also in Time Warner Centre in NYC. Fellow Daily Photo blogger from NYC has also posted it here.

Siloso
This multi techni colour words "Siloso" must have been around for the longest time.
I think it's created to beg people to take photos of it!

One of the 3 beaches at Sentosa Island. It's where they have the Annual Countdown Party on the last day (31 Dec) of every year.
This is the beach is where people usually play beach volleyball and roller blading. Personally I don't think people should swim here! Look at the ships that's so near the beach.
Are you a beach person? Or are you an indoor person like me?

The Sentosa Merlion
There are 5 'recognised' by the 'authorities' Merlion in Singapore. This is one of them. It's located at Sentosa and is probably the tallest of them all at 37 metres high.
Do you know you can get inside this Merlion at Sentosa? With a $8 entrance fee, you get to go to the Mouth and the Head (top) of the Merlion.
Momo and I thought it would be silly to pay $8 to go in. But we wondered if we could see Universal Studios from the top! We went to ask the ticket counter folks. They said, you can see part of it! It's only $8 to find out. So we parted with our $16 to find out.
(We thought a fair price would be $5 per person!)
There's a video show in the mini theatre inside the Merlion. It's most probably the most ridiculous story of how Singapore is founded!
Even the Australian tourist from Brisbane that were with us was laughing at it! Half the facts were true, the other half, we would say the story teller had really good imagination!
We got to the top of the Merlion after that. We got to see what we wanted to see! Partially only though.
(if you want to see a larger photo of the photo above, click here. I loaded the original size photo at Flickr. You can zoom in to see the details!)
USS is opening soon, we should just wait till it's open to get in. :-)
