Hot Food Vending Machine in Singapore

Spotted a new kind of vending machine in Singapore. It's a Hot Meal vending machine!

It's located at the Central Forum at the National University of Singapore.  It's where there's a stretch of around 10 different kinds of vending machine, all in a single row.



I am not sure how it works. I did not try it. Maybe one of these days I will try it!
(not because of how the food will taste, but how the machine works!)



There's a touch screen where you can order your meals.
There are 4 different meals on sale now. Pasta with sauce, Fried Rice, Hor Fun and Curry Chicken.

I am just curious to find out, how the Hor Fun will turn out!
I saw the email address on the machine and googled Jiayen. It seems they manufacture frozen food and their products can be found in supermarkets.

The techie in me wonders how the food is heated up. I suspect it will be microwaved. On the screen you can see that the food in the machine is stored at minus 14.2 degree Celsius.  Wow, how cool!

Smith Street Night Makan

Wow! The word I said when I saw the tables all lined up and getting ready for business few hours later.
The tables were lined up so straight!



This is Smith Street in Singapore Chinatown. It is also known as the Chinatown Food Street.

It's kind of a touristy place to eat.  I only come here when friends or relatives visit!

Looking again at how straight the tables were arranged, do you think the person who arranged it had some obsessive compulsive behaviour? I really want to know how they do it!

Chicken Rice

You can get delicious chicken rice at most places in Singapore. It's really a personal preference. But to some people, they hold fast to the belief that only certain shops are best and no one can beat it. This is one of the chain restaurants that serves Hainanese Chicken Rice in Singapore. I saw this and thought I will take a photo of it. Not my favourite though. ;-)

Our boss bought a box of mooncakes for us and it's kinda like mini mooncakes.

Shaking hands with a crab

Few nights ago, Momo, Sis and I had dinner with few food blogger friends.

We ate many things but one of the funny shots we took was this. The crab's claw is so big, we can actually pretend to 'shake hands' with it. LOL



If you are going to ask, YES it was delicious!

Donuts

Donuts bought by friends for the rest of us to try. They sure are delicious. More close ups of them here.



Donuts always have holes in the middle. OK some of the donuts above do not have holes or the holes have been covered.

Kinda reminds me that humans too have a void in their hearts. Especially those who have lost their loves ones to the cyclone in Myanmar and the earthquake in China.

Peanuts

Salted peanuts. A common starter at many Chinese Food restaurants in Singapore.



In Singapore, these peanuts also has a joke. When you say someone in paid peanuts, it might mean $600,000. LOL

The Latest Donut Craze from Indonesia

This is the latest donut chain in Singapore that is causing donuts fans to go gaga over. J.Co Donuts. It has been attracting long long queues since it opened.



This is its first outlet in Singapore. I just found out from its website, www.jcodonuts.com that its from Indonesia. This branch opened in February is franchised by Breadtalk, a local bread company.

How to 'chope' seats in Food Courts legally.

What is this photo about? It is a wooden token used to 'reserve' or in local slang 'chope' a seat in eating places in Singapore.

This is a token used at a new Food Court / Restaurant in Singapore that serves all food Japanese. It is called Shokudo Japanese Food Bazaar. There is also a RFID card that is used for ordering food. At the end of your meal when you exit, present the card to the cashier and you will be billed accordingly.



This token thingy is used at a upmarket Food Court. At other places, people in Singapore 'chope' seats using small little tissue packs or newspaper. haha..

Dinner with Kaa from Vantaa Daily Photo

Last nite, I had the privilege to meet up with Kaa and her husband from Vantaa Daily Photo.

It was very interesting to meet up with DP from all over the world. When any of you DP are visiting Singapore, buzz me! We can meet for dinner too.

We had a good time chatting and knowing more about Vantaa.

More Donuts craze: Doughnalisa at Vivo City

More donuts craze in Singapore. It seems that donuts is gaining a sudden popularity.

Other than the long queue at Raffles City basement, I saw another donut shop at Vivocity yesterday. We were on our way to have lunch celebrating a colleague's birthday.

So innovative! The picture caught my eye!



No, I did not queue up. Maybe I shall show the donuts picture another day.

Are you crazy about doughnuts? I wonder when Krispy Kreme will come to Singapore. The franchise fee is reportedly very high. Krispy Kreme is ok eaten straight out of the oven. But you get a sugar high!

OK. I can't spell. Is it doughnuts or donuts.

"See Harm"

Just wondering...

Do you all eat this in your part of the world?

These are cockles, here in Singapore we all it "See Harm" in one of the local dialect.



Pretty bloody eh? It's an almost "must have" ingredients in many local dishes, like "Laksa" and "Char Kuey Teow". This picture is one plate where we had "Steamboat".

Huh? Steamboat? No, not those that floats on water. I remember when I was living in Australia long ago, when we mentioned steamboat, the locals never relate it to food! haha...

KFC and Pizza Hut Delivery Bikes...

Do you order home delivery? Nowdays it is much simpler that both Pizza Hut and KFC shared the same number.

Inspired by Jing (Shanghai Daily Photo)'s pizza delivery bicycles. I saw this today during lunch time, a whole row of delivery motorcycles of Pizza Hut and KFC, and decided I should snap it for today's DP.



I prefer KFC to Pizza Hut. Which do you prefer?

For our international friends, we are able to order both KFC and Pizza Hut food in 1 phone call (62 35 35 35), and they deliver it together in 1 delivery as well in Singapore. Is it the same in your country?

The wind blew the haze away... so its time for Claypot rice

Overnight, the wind must have blown all the haze away. Right now the PSI is 34.

From the picture just taken a while ago, at least the telecommunications tower on Bukit Timah Hill can be seen.

Bukit Timah Hill is the tallest point in Singapore, but it's not very high. Most high rise buildings in Singapore are much taller than the tallest hill. haha...


Lunch I just had. Claypot rice. Had to wait like half an hour for it. When the claypot arrive and the top taken off, the steam just comes out! Then you pour black sauce over it and stir...

Mid Autumn Festival / Mooncake & Lantern Festival

Today's the Mid Autumn Festival. Everyone's suppose to be eating looking at the moon, eating mooncakes and sipping tea under the clear skies. BUT... Singapore's covered with HAZE! Arrghh... Thankfully I have air conditioning and a Sharp Plasmacluster Air Purifier as well.

Today's pix will be obviously photos of mooncakes.

They come in various types of packaging. This one's from Meritus Mandarin, Singapore.


This very chinese packaging comes from Chef Chan's Restaurant.

This one is what they call the "ping1 pi2" skin mooncake. Translated as Snow Skin Mooncakes.
These are usually serve cold so the skin does not melt. My mum made this one!


Enjoy... Sorry did not go to the Chinese Garden where there's a lantern festival. It's just to hazy to go out. So no pictures of lanterns.

100 years old...

How many things do you know that is 100 years old?

Well, this was created to commemorate a 100 year old institution. The Centennial logo for the National University of Singapore. (fondly known as NUS)




The 100 character is formed in an infinity sign. How clever!

100 years and many things have changed. NUS is ranked the 22nd in the Times Higher Educational Supplement of the World's Top University. It is also the top 3 university in Asia and Australasia by Newsweek.

Update (6 October). The Times Ranking for this year is out. NUS has moved up to positioni 19th in the world's best universities!

Extra Extra!!!

After posting the above, I found a picture in my archive. Yesterday's mouse, it tried to eat my food! This picture dedicated to tanty from Stavanger DP & Jing from Shanghai DP who loves the white little mouse.



The little white mouse tried to eat my curry puff. No wonder the mouse seems to be getting fatter and fatter.

Space Age Series - Saturday

How do you communicate or keep contact with people from outer space? Well, maybe people working in this building are doing it right now...



The satellite dish is looking up right now, sometimes it is pointing at the side towards the building opposite. Sometimes I have too rich an imagination, I can picture blue or red rays shooting from the satellite to rival buildlings. (Maybe I grew up watching too much cartoons.)

Guess what. After a successful contact people on the moon, folks from the moon sent some of their cakes over. Here's a picture of a mooncake. It's Double Yolk with Lotus Seed Paste.
