Botero By The Pool @ St Regis Singapore

Singapore has become quite artsy these few years, if you look around, it really has!



Do you know that the St Regis Singapore hotel is like a Art Museum by itself?
By the pool you can see this and a few other Fernando Botero sculptures.

If you dine at their restaurants, you can see art work of Singapore artists too. I was wondering and I asked! ;-)

I heard the rooms are the same too. You can sleep in the room that has quite an expensive art piece!
From what I heard, it's not for sale though. (Not that I can afford it.)

The Pretty Photo on the Singapore Visitors Centre Booth

I took this photo quite some time ago. I noticed it only after I saw something similar that the artist did for a Peranakan Restaurant in Joo Chiat. His work was in the toilet in the restaurant! The most beautiful toilet ever!



It's multiple photos of the same streets overlapping each other and the effect is quite good.



I notice the photos are mostly of shop houses in Singapore.

It makes me want to do something similar for my living room.
Photos of something that I can overlap and make it into a long photo. What shall I take?

A World United by Huang Yifan

Another art work for this blog. I love taking art work or sculptures around Singapore.



This can be found at Marina Bay, where the Youth Olympic Games (YOG).
The artist is Mr Huang Yifan.

Concept: “A World United” illustrates the unifying spirit of peace and sport through a stylised and dynamic depiction of sportsmen engaging in the 26 sports of  the inaugural Youth Olympic Games.  

Symbolising mutual respect of cultures shared through sport, the circular shape of the work is a reflection of the esprit de corps, friendship, along with willingness to engage in the exchange of ideas and knowledge.  

Through sport, unity and connection between individuals can be achieved – and more importantly, peace and harmony between nations.

The National Art Gallery, Singapore

That's "Coming Soon" the local Malay language.

"City Hall" and the old "Supreme Court" is being renovated and will host the National Art Gallery, Singapore in 2015.





It's said that most people only visit Art Galleries or Museums that are not in their country.
Is it true?

International Cruise Terminal @ Marina South

Took a shot of the International Cruise Terminal at Marina South recently.
Not a very clear photo, it was too hazy....




Reports says it will be completed by 2013, which is next year.

It has really deep waters, no height restrictions and a large turning basin compared to the Cruise Centre at Harbourfront. Can't wait for it to be ready and huge cruise liners can berth here!

Light of the Merlion

The Merlion looks very different this month!
For the iLight Marina Bay 2012 Festival, the Merlion has been used as the 'canvas' for the 'light paint'.




Projectors shine colourful lights unto the Merlion at the Merlion Park.
You can just stand from afar like in the photo above, and admire it from afar.....



Or go nearer and enjoy some 'noise' from the speakers as well.
Some says it's not noise, but the genre of new age sound does not go too well with my ears.

But it is something enjoyable though.
We were just standing near the merlion for almost an hour looking at the colour change.



If you have a phone with a camera, say an iPhone, the photos come out super clear!

Inevitable by Juriani Mansor

It has been a long long time since I walked the "tunnel" of the Esplanade.
There are always great interesting art pieces hung on walls along the tunnel.

This arts work is called Inevitable by Juriani Mansor.

The bead maker

I was quite intrigue by the beadmaker torching glass to melt it and make it into beads. Standing beside him, all of us can really feel the heat from the blow torch.



There was a sheet of paper to put down our contact details for more info, but I forgot to fill it up.

Oh yes, the above demo was part of the Singapore Art Show demo at Raffles City SC last weekend.

Singapore Art Show - Rangoli

I saw this at Raffles City Shopping Centre. It's part of the Singapore Art Show. Two ladies were putting up a Rangoli - sandpainting. You can see this in many Indian (Hindu) houses especially during Deepavali.



I did not know that the Singapore Art Show is on until I saw this roadshow at the shopping centre. It's quite interesting, the program that they have lined up. Take a look at www.singaporeartshow.sg or visit the National Arts Council website at www.nac.gov.sg

Arts & Heritage District

I did not know that Singapore had an "Arts & Heritage District", until I saw this banner.



Anyone interested in Henri Matisse should visit the Tyler Print Institute soon.
