ChildAid2006 - A children's charity concert

ChildAid 2006 - School Pocket Money Fund

Tonight I attended this charity concert to raise funds for children. I am totally, absolutely amazed by these children who offered their talents to perform to raise funds for other children who are less fortunate.

All who performed are under 19 years old. Some who performed includes: Abigail Sin, hailed by TIME magazine as one of Asia's "Small Wonders". If you all remember the drummer Ethan Ong, 28 August DP post, he also performed a magnificent drum rolls on Akira Jimbo's Mid Manhattan.

This is picture of Tampines Primay School's Children's Choir. It's a pre-event performance they had at the foyer of the NUS University Cultural Centre Concert Hall. Of course I could not take pictures inside the Concert Hall, only this one outside.

Those in Singapore, you might want to lend your support. Check if Sistic still have tickets, give them your support.Read more about School Pocket Money Fund by Straits Time / Business Time here.

Aliens landed at Vivo, and left something behind

It was reported that at Vivo City, the Martians have planted an snowman that does not melt. They have also left these little green stuff all around, near the flower beds.

What are the Martians up to? We need the help of visitors to this blog help solve the puzzle.

The Martians left some clues and we need your help. Is it a:
1. Martian Spy Cam
2. Martian water sprinkler system
3. Martian sound system (speakers)
4. Part of the Martian space ship that was left behind.

The first correct person in Singapore to answer, gets a treat Choc shake from Godiva. (I will sponsor this, pic of the prize)

Anyone from overseas who answers it gets a Uniquely Singapore postcard sent to them. They might win a Singapore Airlines flight too! (Singapore Tourism Board will sponsor it, since it's their contest. I will just drop the postcard into the postboxes here :-) )

Genetic Engineering - Pinocchio with Snowman

From yesterday's post, we see that everyone's get tempted eh.

What is this? I have no idea. To me it looks like it is a cross breed between a snowman and Pinocchio. It must have lied that it did not get tempted by chocolates at the Godiva windows, that is why its nose is growing.....

Are you a fan of Walt Disney characters? Guess what, I do not subscribe to the news channels on cable tv, but I have Disney Channel! :-) My sis just visited Disneyland HK a few days ago!

Forgive me for I have sinned - Godiva Chocolatier

How many times have you fallen into temptation?

The dark brown colour of each individually crafted chocolates, with sophisticated designs, both in shape and toppings, the smell, the... I better stop.

Colleagues and I were walking past Godiva Chocolatier and we just could not resist and went in and each of us took a Dark Chocolate Shake each. Each thick, chocolatety and cold sip simply rejunivates and clears the clogged arteries. (Dark Chocs are good for the heart right?)

When was the last time you got tempted by something?

Which side are you on?

Hmm.. this is a continuation of yesterday's Santa Express.

Now which side will you be queing on?

Right or left?

Wednesday, November 22, 2006

Does Santa Exist? Visit him via the Santa Express?

Of course we know it doesn't. This is Centrepoint Mall in Orchard Road. They have a Santa Express for children. A Santa Express to fool children?

It's something that do not exist, and sigh... it does not even appropriately represent Christmas.

Anyone been a Santa or Santarina before?

The Tall Tree at Ngee Ann City

This is a Christmas tree at Ngee Ann City Shopping Centre.

Every year there will be this tall tall tree right in the middle, this year's no exception.

Can you see how small the people are? It spans across a few levels too!

Barber Poles... The History behind them....

This Barber Pole is taken from Dover. It's something that we do not often see anymore.

Do you know its history? In the medieval times, barber performed surgery on their customers. The poles are what the patients hold on to during surgery!

Read more about it at Wikipedia.

Welcome in many languages

Yesterday's post has multilingual talk. Now....

Do you feel good when you see words in language you know?

Maybe that's why they have this multi language greeting to welcome people who arrive at the airport. The first 4 are the 4 national language of Singapore, the rest I am sure many reading this will instantly recognize it!

Welcome!

A short survey, how many languages can you speak? For me, I speak English, Chinese (Mandarin and the Hokkien dialect), Malay, and a few words of French. (too lazy to continue French classes)

Tuesday, November 14, 2006

In case you did not see it, PLEASE Flag Early! haha....

Yesterday's was just a small sign on the poll. This was taken at the Bus Interchange. It is much bigger too!

If you all notice, the signs are in 4 languages. Just like any other notices, they are always in English, Malay, Chinese and Tamil. These are the 4 official languages in Singapore.

More info about the buses in Singapore, there are 2 main bus companies, the SBS Transit and SMRT. To take the public transport in Singapore, you use the EZLink card.

My previous post here has a picture of the EZLink card :-)

Sigh, as Min said in yesterday's comments, the GST is going up in Singapore. It will be 7% soon. Sigh again... :(

Please flag the bus early / Wheel chair accessible buses.

Took this photo yesterday afternoon while having lunch.

The buses in Singapore are starting to be wheel-chair accessible. Not all, but at least Service 147 is.

The Please flag the bus early sign is new too.

California Fitness - Are you a fitness fanatic?

Do you exercise? Do you go to the fitness center? We all know that we are suppose to exercise at least 3 times a week, do you?

Well, for me, I used to go to the work place gym 3 times weekly, nowdays, I am getting lazy. My only exercise for the week is a office lunch time kick-boxing / high impact class organised by the company I work with.

This is a picture of a big fitness center, right in the middle of Orchard Road. It is also the one where you can see fit people showing off through the glass windows that is the wall of the centre.
Only the fit ones will use the machines facing the crowd outside. haha...

Christmas Preparations

Lazy Saturday.... I have been watching Cable TV the whole day!

Time to put up a post. Most malls already have their decoration up. This one is still fixing it up. Photo taken 2 or 3 nights ago.

Looks like it has been snowing. The wooden shed has snow all over it.

Where the fish are, there the men shall be..

Is it true? Wherever you can find fish, you will see fishing hobbyist there.

This was taken near at the swanky new shopping mall, Vivo City. There are a few man fishing there, yes, I saw one who caught a crab too!

(Far behind this picture is the Singapore Cruise Centre.)

Is fishing your hobby? I have colleagues who will go hire a boat and they will fish at the South China Sea.

Prego - The Doughman Live!

Remember I posted about the dinner at Prego? According to the hotel's website, Prego has Singapore's biggest and most extensive Italian restaurant.

We had a special treat last nite. There was this guy (shown in the picture) that was performing flipping dough acts. Wonderful!

Yup, as any DP will do, the camera pops out immediately. Took a video with my little camera.

Sometimes, a photo will not do, here's the video that will tell a million words :-)

My very first youtube upload. haha...

Tallest Hotel in South East Asia - Swissôtel The Stamford, Singapore

Live it up in Singapore, literally!

Swissôtel The Stamford, Singapore is the the tallest hotel in Singapore and also South East Asia. This is the night view (obviously!) of it right across the road where the "Padang" is.

I just had dinner at a Italian restaurant there called Prego. It's on the ground floor of this tall building. Food's good! The highest floor is also a nice place, a romantic place to have dinner. It's called Equinox.

Victoria Concert Hall - Introducing the Pipe Organ Man

Last Friday night I was at the Victoria Concert Hall for a piano performance.

Victoria Concert Hall is the great old dame of Concert Halls in Singapore. It was the place before the magnificent Esplanade Theatres On the Bay was built.

Here's a pipe organ sculpture at the venue. How interesting. The Pipe Organ Man!

Musuem Series - Singapore Philatelic Musuem

We had a break from the Tourist Series, breaking for Nov Theme Day and continuing and extra day to show what will the new buildling be like.

We are back to the Tourist Series, now a sub Musuem Series to go with the Tourist Series. Do you collect stamps? Do you like to view in details stamps and know the history behind it? Well, if you do, head down to the Singapore Philatelic Musuem when you visit Singapore.

Maybe as many have said, the old letter writing is becoming a thing of the past. Everyone uses MSN, Yahoo! Messenger, Email, SMS, MMS, etc to communicate with each other. Hmmm, do you still write snail mail? Actually I still do, but it's usually with a payment slip and a cheque - paying my bills! haha...

The New Arts Canteen in NUS

Yesterday's Theme Post was about something that was to be lost forever. The physical buildling will be gone. A new building will then emerge 10 months later.

I caught a sneak peak of it, and photographed it (few months ago). This is what they new Arts Canteen will look like. Hill top Dining. Sounds cool eh...

It is going to have both open air dining and air-conditioned dining areas.

November Theme Day

The 1st of every month is Theme Day for Daily Photo Bloggers.
This month's theme: "Something that's about to disappear soon"

This is the Arts Canteen at the National University of Singapore. It's one of the many canteens on campus. This canteen will be closed on 18 Nov. (only 18 days away) It will then be demolished. After demolition a new canteen will be built.

This canteen has served the staff and students of NUS for the last 25 years. The roof according to reports have been leaking when it rains. The ventilation is bad. It does not meet the requirements of the National Environment Agency for food hygiene and exhaust systems. So it's time to go... It will soon disappear.....

----

51 Daily Photo sites are participating in the 1st November theme, please use the links to below to visit them.

Due to time zone differences and other factors, the theme photo may not be displayed until later if you are viewing early in the day.
