Lao Pa Sat

One popular food centre at the financial district. It was formerly a wet market.

In Southeast Asia, the largest remaining Victorian filigree cast-iron structure is found here in this building. A view inside would reveal more. This is from the outside, taken last week.

Long queue at the Swensen's at the airport.

Was at the airport to help a friend book last minute flight tickets. The ticket is for a flight in less than 12 hours, so internet booking is closed. Telephone reservations seems to be forever on hold. (yes it's the company that has the first A330 company) So had to made a trip all the way to the airport, as that's where airline ticket offices are still open.

Happen to see this when I was there. It was nearly 10 PM and there seems to be a hungry crowd! There's so many people queuing to go into Swensen's. I wonder why.... No, I did not bother to find out, going home to sleep was what was on my mind.

Do you feel hungry when you get down the plane? I always do! LOL.

Talking about airports, it seemed that the there has been lots of luggage problems at Heathrow's T5. Maybe if they had a more comprehensive test like what they did in Singapore, they would have not incurred the wrath of so many passengers.

Singapore Fashion Festival 08

Photo taken at the the Tent at Ngee Ann City open space. It's the Singapore Fashion Festival. I did not get to go in as I did not purchase any tickets. Maybe next time. I only got this poster at the perimeter of the tent. haha..

A fellow Daily Photo blogger in NYC has captures from the famous NY Fashion Week. Check it out!

Food from the Heart

Do you know what happens to the food from shops that you buy from after the day's over?

Those who are part of the voluntary food program decides to give their food for free to the needy ones instead of selling them the next day.

You can read more about Food from the Heart program. Visit their website at www.foodheart.org for more info.

I happen to have lunch today at a participation restaurant that gives their unsold food away.

This is printed on their paper serviette.

Is there a similar program in the city you live in?

Ricoh Park - The Park above the MRT Station

Looking out the window from where I am having a course, I see the park that I walk past frequently when I get out of the train station.

The park is actually quite big. According to the National Parks Board website, it is actually 1.02 ha.

This park is actually situated on top of the Tanjong Pagar train station. In the evenings, you can see many people resting and enjoying a temporary tranquility before they go home.

Skeleton building..

Say goodbye to another building that is disappearing.

Walking along Robinson Road and notice that it has all the jagged 'spokes'. It's like the building is so skinny like a skeleton, you can see the bones. Haha..

Wish you all a remaining good week ahead!

Pinnacle @ Duxton... Living up there...

The whitish blocks are getting taller and higher. It's known as Pinnacle @ Duxton, Singapore's highest public housing. (it that reaches 50 stories high)

Looks like it is progressing well. I would love to live at the last few upper floors!
Would you like to live so high up?

Real Man, Fake Ladies

Two mornings ago, I was at a shopping mall with sis and Momo. Then sis said, quick snap the photo.

Can you see why? There are 3 mannequins and 2 other real persons. On the lower floor, the 3 ladies are fake. They are forever posing like that. The man is real. He quickly looked away when he saw me take out my camera. However, the lady on top is real. This is taken at Raffles City Shopping Centre.

Have a good week ahead!

Blessed Easter!

A Blessed Easter to all!

Christians around the world celebrate Easter today. We remember his resurrection on this day. This is one of the churches in Singapore that celebrated Easter. Yes, this is the church that I attend.

Look at the feet...

These are my colleagues legs! haha....

I can't remember who the legs belong to. But have you played team building games like this? You have a plank and 8 people get on it, and try to move forward together.

English Presbytery Easter Convention. Expo Hall 3

If you happen to read this early Friday morning, why not head down to the Singapore Expo before 10.30 AM.

Ever wondered what Good Friday and Easter is all about? Not about chocolates or Easter Bunnies. So what is it?

The English Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church in Singapore is having a combined Easter Convention. A 150 strong choir will be singing, a drama will so be performed by the Covenant Players. It's free too.

Have a very Good Friday.

KTM Singapura

This photo was taken a few days ago on a wet wet day. The walls are partially wet.

This is the Keretapi Tanah Melayu or translated Malaysian Railway. It's the railway service from neighbouring Malaysia that terminates near the Financial Centre of southern Singapore. Interesting eh?

Some people like to take the railway to Kuala Lumpur from this Tanjong Pagar Station. If you purchase your tickets here, you pay say SGD19 (cheapest day fare). If you just board from the next station which is in Johor Bahru, you pay only MYR18. Now that's almost half price off! 1 SGD = 2.3 MYR.

Holiday Inn Atrium

Yesterday, it was looking up, today it is looking down. You can see some people are avoiding the sun, yet others sit where the sun rays are..

What was I doing here? I was having lunch. It was two days of training held at this hotel. Have you recently gone for training of any sorts?

Monday, March 17, 2008

oh my neck hurts when i look up....

Today, I was attending a course held at a hotel called Holiday Inn Atrium.

Look at the atrium! They don't build buildings like these anymore, do they?
They look beautiful ya?

Peeping from the rooftop

Was standing at a carpark, and looked out. Ah.. building with colourful windows.

This row of shops are actually restaurants along Cuppage, an area near The Centrepoint and Starhub Centre.

Tactic Action Game (TAG) Paintball Game

The other day, while I was at an outdoor team building activities by our company, we spotted something more interesting just next to us!

These guys are playing with Paintball! The pictures look green because these people are all behind a big huge green netting.

These people are hiding behind the hut.

Looks fun ya? Have you played something similar before? Should get some friends to organise a trip down.

umbrellas...

It has been raining these few days and it is cold and miserable.

But this sight of so many umbrellas of different sizes, colours and shapes brings a tiny smile to many faces who is amused by it.

By the way, do you have your own favourite umbrella? Or umbrellas are just umbrellas to you.

Duty Free Shopping at the airport.

Things will be supposedly at least 7% cheaper here than outside. (7% is the GST rate now)

Do you all pay for GST in your city/country? How much is the rate?

The Moving Propeller

Seen at the airport (Terminal 3). A slow moving propeller that turns and moves around on a robotic arm.

Yup, it captivated the people all around :-)

Have you taken a propeller plane? I have not. But people who have always says it is a great experience. :-)

At the airport..

Have not stepped into the airport since I went to the Terminal 3 Preview. This was what I saw today. Sis and Mum came back from holidays and we were there to pick them up. Went over to Terminal 3 to have a peek at the 'real' thing and dinner.

Looks like people at the airport are relaxing. There are freebies being given out too.

Human Queue for Taxis are back...

17 December 2007 was the day taxi fares raised between 10-49% in Singapore. People started to avoid taking taxis and taxis were abundant. There were queues of empty taxis waiting in line at all the taxi stands.

Well, I guess the locals have gone back to their old habits and have reverted to taking taxis again. Just look at the queue as seen yesterday at the IT Show.

How much does taxi cares cost in your city? Click here if you wish to know the prices of cab fares in Singapore.

Inflation? Not at the IT Show...

People in Singapore has been complaining that cost of living is getting very high. You will think that it's a lie if you visited the Annual IT Show held here.

It was just maddening crowds everywhere, and I joined in too! LOL.

Everyone was just snapping up good deals. You could see lots of people carrying their 32 inch LCD Sony Bravia TVs. Others were snapping up desktop and laptop computers. Others are buying GPS to navigate around the little city state.

Do you have massive IT shows like this where you are?
My loot? A new LG KS20 mobile phone. :-)

Team Building at Orchid Country Club

Today, most of our colleague were all off work, and we attended a team building session at Orchid Country Club.

Well, the session was good! We got to know some people we only known as 'identities' over email! This happens when other colleagues work a 10 mins bus ride away.

Here's a photo I took while I was blindfolded! haha.. I knew my camera was in my pocket, so I took it out, turn it on and randomly took shots all around.

So, do you only know certain people in your work place as 'email addresses' only? :-)

Singapore National Bird?

It has been jokingly said that Cranes are Singapore's National Bird.

But not the cranes that are birds, but cranes that are big huge machines at the Port of Singapore. :-)

Do your city or country have a National Bird?

From Fresh Ingredients to Cooked Food

A typical 'Wet Market' market on the bottom floor, and 'Food Centre' on the top floor in Singapore.

In the city that you live in, where do you get your meat, vegetables, etc?
In Singapore, most housewives get the fresh meat and vegetables from 'wet markets' like this.

You do get free parking in Singapore. But only at the Housing Development Board (HDB) carparks at the suburbs. (no, definitely not in the City Centre :-P )

Theme Day (after) - Graffiti / Street Art

Oops. I forgot it was Theme Day yesterday! So I am doing Theme Day (After). haha..

I seldom see Graffiti around, though there are places where you can 'legally' do it in Singapore. But this Street Art, you can see it almost everywhere in Singapore. (yes it's true, especially after any kind of festivals, or when the cleaners are not fast enough)

Creative Street Art, dont' you think?

Want to look at Graffiti / Street Art in other cities around the world? Join my friends from around the world who are participating in this Theme Day. Due to different time-zones, some photos might appear at a later time.

When in Singapore, take the Singapore Flyer.

The Singapore Flyer officially opens today!

The sky's gloomy though.. But not the people who got the chance to be one of the first to go up for the public opening.

The Singapore Flyer had this special ride opened earlier for lovers on Valentine's Day. Guess what? A friend of ours proposed to his girlfriend on the Flyer. He told us that the wife to be said, he said it too soft! He was a bit shy to say it with so many other couples in it. :-) Anyway, she accepted it.
