National Day

Tomorrow's Singapore's National Day.

I saw over the weekend at the suburb of Choa Chu Kang. I seldom visit to this suburb, but was here to visit a friend's house.

Flags

I thought the National Day decorations at this place is quite unique.
Majulah!

Fly the flag...

Fly the flag!

Some blocks of HDB flats are already flying the National Flag since last week.
It gives such a celebratory mood doesn't it?

Singapore Flags

Did you know that outside the National Day celebrations period (1 Jul to 30 Sep), the Singapore flag must always be flown only from a flagpole?

Singapore Flags

The Singapore Flag was unveiled on 3 Dec 1959.  It was 6 months after it was self-governing within the British Empire, that it was officially adopted.

Upon independence on 9 August 1965,  it was adopted as the National flag.

Have you seen the Singapore flag when it had the Union Jack long ago? It's like the current Australian or New Zealand flag. Hop on to this wiki link if you are interested.

Tricycle Dreams - Live our dreams, fly our flag

What's your dream? This year for Singapore National's Day, the theme is "Live our dreams, fly our flag".

To dream the theme, you see many projects or displays around Singapore that follows the theme.

I saw this Tricycle Dream display at Raffles Place recently.

Tricycle Dream

Small little white tricycles were everywhere.
Each having a Singapore flag on it. It's kinda cute.

It's suppose to remind us that we should encourage the little ones to peddle on, and dream big!

Tricycle Dream

My sis said to me: "Do you realise something? Everything is facing one direction. Everything is so systematic." We need some chaos to spice things up!

Tricycle Dream

Surround the tricycles were little drawings by the little kids of their dreams.

The dreams of 80% of the kids are of the same profession. I don't need to mention it, you would have guessed it. This is Singapore, parents use a template to tell kids what to be when they grow up.

But there are a few different ones that I spotted. Let me show you three.

This little one, Kiara who wants to be a chef!
Let's wish this kid success and one day, may you have yourself a Michelin Star restaurant in Singapore!

Tricycle Dream

Ye Wen wants to be a teacher. A very noble dream.

In Singapore, most teachers have to be at school by 7:20 AM and most leave work only after 5:00 PM because of extra curricula activities. A really tough job. Ye Wen probably does not know that yet. Let's hope when he becomes a teacher, things will be better!

 Tricycle Dream

This was interesting. This kid's dream dream is to own Ikea Mall!
I wonder if he spends his weekends at Ikea every week?

I am an Ikea fan too! Let me introduce you to: http://www.ikeafans.com!!

Tricycle Dream

What is your dream?

It's good to be in Primary 5

Wondering why are these seats reserved?

It's reserved for Primary 5 students in Singapore, in this example Woodgrove Primary School to attend the National Day Parade rehearsals.

Every year, all the Primary Fives in Singapore get to attend one of the many rehearsals. Ah, it's good to be young eh? It's really fun, especially if you are a kid. (or even an adult)

NDP2010 Rehearsal

I saw some Army Boys rehearsing their moves few nights ago.

While the rest were watching the big screen TV showing the YOG Music Video. ;-)

Singapore National Day 2010 Rehearsal

The National Day Parade is much loved public event in Singapore. Everyone wants to get tickets to the show. To give everyone a chance to experience the parade in person, they have rehearsals that people can attend.

I was nearby and caught a glimpse of these fairies walking to the site.

NDP2010 Rehearsal

You can see someone was glad to be photographed in the photo above. What a big huge smile!

The photo below, the ladies rushing to their rehearsal. They walk really fast!

NDP2010 Rehearsal

Hey folks in Singapore, do you want to win a Flip MinoHD Pocket Camcorder and MXR WizQubes? You can at the "Enjoying a Digital Lifestyle" roadshow.

I was informed that as part of the National Day Parade 2010, they have organised a free "Enjoying a Digital Lifestyle" roadshow at ION Orchard (24/25 July) and Bishan Junction 8 (31 Jul/1 Aug).

At the roadshow you can learn how to use infocomm tools like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and set up blogs. I think the most interesting part is experience holding the Chinook in your hands with MXR technology.

To find out more about the New Infocomm & U roadshow, you may wish to visit the Singapore Netizen page in Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/singnetizen.

SMRT Bus with the Singapore Flag Design

Spotted this bus when I looked out the window this morning.
Isn't this the bus that was featured on the TV news about "Fly Our Flag" yesterday?

These bendy buses is the perfect choice for the flag wrap eh?
It is long enough to make it look so nice.

View of NDP from our hotel room

This was yesterday's view from the hotel room of the NDP.
We could see the stage, but humans are a bit too small. LOL... The sound was clear though.

Unzoom and this is what we saw. Plus the bay and the merlion. (not seen in this photo)

But we did see lots of fireworks live.
I can't really take fireworks photo.

Our other friend took nicer ones. I video the rest instead on my little point and click.

For scenes we could not really see, there's always the TV broadcast that provided the zoom ;-)

Singapore's National Day Parade Entry....

Today's Singapore National Day. Those who are been fortunate enough to get an entry ticket gets to watch the National Day Parade 2008 live.

Here's the entry point to the venue. It's all in the Singapore colours. It's a sea of red!

No, I do not have an entry ticket. A friend booked a room with a view of the National Day Parade stage and we all chipped in to watch it in the comfort of an air-con room. Can't wait for the fireworks to start later..

Happy National Day to Singapore.

Fighter jets nearly coliding....

Last Saturday evening, everyone in the streets were looking up. The thundering loud sounds of fighter jets were doing a demo for Singapore's National Day rehearsal.

At certain angles, it was as if the fighter jets are going to collide. Did not manage to capture it as we were all so fascinated and all necks were looking up!

This is the only shot I took. This shot at a different part of the sky. From this angle, it does not look that dangerous. :-)

The Flyer and the Flag

Continuation from yesterday's picture. Another picture that Momo's friend took.

In the middle of the water, is the world's largest floating platform where the National Day Parade performance was held.

You can see the colour of red on the left. Those are Singaporeans in the spectator stand, all dressing up in the Singapore colour.

Of course, the Singapore Flyer in the background.

Happy 42th Birthday Singapore

Today is Singapore's National Day.

The celebrations are held at the Marina Bay and this is the fly past with the Chinook helicopters and a very big Singapore Flag. Together with the Chinooks are Apache attack helicopters as escorts. They fly at around 90-100 km/h so that the flag won't fold when its moving too slowly or tear when its moving too fast.

The flag weights 63 kg and is around 500 square metres big. (Think something a bit bigger than a basketball court)

Thanks also to Momo's friend who provided this photo today.

Happy Birthday Singapore.

It just reminded me of someone who likes men in uniform. haha...
