It's on! The practice race has started although it's been raining this afternoon!
It's gonna be a very exciting wet race!

Lights are ready to shine for the Singtel Singapore Grand Prix

The lights are ready for the night race. The super bright lights have been tested and the city seems brighter than usual.

Singtel Singapore Grand Prix

The safety barriers have also gone up and the city looks a bit weird with so many fences around.

Now, if you have been on the roads these few days, you would have noticed the buses, cars, van and motorcyles are now pretending to be F1 drivers! Suddenly everyone's driving so fast. It's a bit of madness, a cheeky kind of madness.

Are you a F1 fan?

Just before F1 starts

It's almost the F1 season in Singapore and the roads have closed and caused some inconvenience to the people working near the F1 track.

Momo (the wife) has to wake up early and take a different route to her office the last few days. The buses stops far away and everyone has to walk all the way or join in the super packed trains. Yes, she's complaining like many others.

Just before F1 starts.. 22 Sept 2011

While she is complaining, she's also looking forward to road closures. She enjoys walking in the evening looking at people setting up whatever is needed for the show to work.  She says it's only once a year that she gets to walk in the middle of the road!

While walking around, she has been taking photos. The above, camera testing going on, probably for viewers around the world to watch the race.

I am sure you will be able to get the more professional photos of all the F1 cars. I will leave those to the professionals.  I am posting something similar, they can't move as fast. In fact, they can't move at all!

It's the Singapore GP Recycle Challenge 2010!
This can be seen at the Singapore Flyer.

It was live on Channel HD5.

Porsche Carrera Cup Asia - Practice Session

One of the other practice sessions at the F1 Singapore tracks. The Porsche Carrera Cup Asia practice session.

For this, you can get near to the cars without the expensive paddock tickets. haha..

Porsche Carrera Cup Asia

Of course the engines as they rev through the circuit is also not as loud. :-p

But it was good to see them.

F1 from the Singapore Flyer..

Thanks to 24seven.sg, I got a set of Friday night tickets to the Singapore Flyer to view the F1 Practice Race.

I am not a professional photographer, so the photo not so nice. I don't have big huge cameras with even bigger lenses like what everyone's carrying tonight. So I can only take blur photos like this.

Oops, why do I always take photos of the Renault Team? Recognize the colour? Oh, ING pulled out their sponsorship and ING's logo disappeared from the cars tonight.

F1 Singapore

Aiyaya.... Romain Grosjean's car skidded at Turn 17. The same place where Nelson Piquet crashed his car last year.

Watching F1 Live on TV...

Tomorrow, people all around the world will be tuning in to watch a few silly men going round and round. (Yes, we are all silly eh?)

You can either be at Marina Bay to watch it live or watch it at home on TV. If you are watching on TV, this guy's the one that you should thank.

If you are in Singapore, you can tune in to Channel 5 / HD5 to watch it. Check Schedule.
If you are in UK, BBC One / Red Button is broadcasting it. Check schedule.
If you are in Australia, ONE is broadcasting it. Check schedule.

F1 Spore: Road diversions. Bus diversions. Expensive Parking

Road diversions. Bus diversions. High fences. No business. Aunties complaining. The list goes on...

Taken yesterday:

The fences has been up for the last few days. I wondered how many drivers have been going down at maybe 3 or 4 am to 'test drive' the tracks. That might be the only time that the roads are not all jammed up. Just look at the cars all getting stucked. Poor thing.

Fences all around, is it a riot?

Taken this morning at 8 am:

Today's the day the roads around the F1 track is closed to the public. I am attending a course this whole week at Suntec City. Thanks to the roads closure and bus diversions, I have to walk very far to my destination. It also means I get to take lots of photos too. :-)

What did I discover? Well, if you are coming here the next few days, the only place to park is probably at Suntec City and Raffles City. The other car parks are either closed or you will need special labels.

Parking Information for F1

Wait, there's more! After the course today, I needed to walk again. But guess what I saw today? Revised parking rates.

I took this photo with my camera phone so it's blurry.

Parking Rates at Raffles City Shopping Center for F1

This Friday if you are parking at Raffles City for 13 hr, be prepared to pay $80! Subjected to 7% GST.

Take public transport if you are coming.

I overheard two elderly tea ladies who cleans up the place where I am attending the course complaining. It's only cars. So loud some more, cheh! Why are people paying so much to watch it? Can watch at home on TV. So boring some more. Going round and round and round only.

Most importantly why are they doing this to us old people? Closed all the roads and make us walk round and round in circles too (like the cars)!

Renault F1 R29

I am sure you have heard a bit too much about Renault in the papers, about the alleged race fixing and stuff.

But a little more does no harm right? If you are in Singapore now, you can see the F1 cars in many malls. This is the Renault F1 R29 as seen at the Suntec City Mall.

If you want do download a big size of the photo above, click here to download another version from my Flickr account.

So, are you a fan of F1? :-)

The Singapore GP Night Lights

Heard of people complaining they work as if they have 'no day or no night'?

Well, some of the streets in Singapore won't see 'night' for the next coming days. The Singapore GP will be roaring to life in a few days and the lights for the night race has been put up.

The lights are as bright as day light if you stand under them.

Night lights of the Singapore GP

Oh yes, the 'resident' GP drivers of Singapore, the taxis, are now test driving the tracks. You can see and hear them rev the engines now. Oops, a taxi just zoomed past me. ;-p

F1 Singapore: Watching it on TV

The cars are circling the circuits now as I am posting this now in front of the TV.

The warm up round just before the race starts.

How do we get to watch this on TV?
Thanks to this guys.

Enjoy your show.

p/s Oops, one Ferrari car had the fuse hose on the car and the car zoomed off!

F1 Singapore: Porsche Carrera Cup Asia

More photos that Momo took from the Formula One Paddock Club yesterday.

These cars are to race for the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia. I think they are doing the test rounds when this was taken.

Porsche Carrera Cup Asia is a supporting race in the Singapore Grand Prix.

F1 Practice Race, Singapore Grand Prix

Momo was fortunate to gain access to the Formula One Paddock Club earlier this afternoon.
Here's some photos that she took.

If you are going to the race, enjoy!

Was looking at my facebook updates, friends working at the national library could also hear the roar of the engines.

Kinda reminds me of the Melbourne Grand Prix. I would smell the rubber and deafening noise at home! You could just turn the TV on, turn off the sound, and listen to the roar of the engines and smells from the air LIVE! :-)

F1: Night view of the skies..

Not sure if you can see the difference in the photo below.
Some roads seems to be brighter than the rest. (No, it's not photoshopped)

That's the F1 circuit! Bright lights will lit up the roads where the track is.

The wonders of technology and modern lighting system.

The last few days, road closures have started. Many people are not able to drive to work. People are taking public transport and walking. Momo is one of them.

The various "No Car Day", "World Car Free Day" campaigns never worked here. Guess what? This week seems to be a forced "leave your car at home" week for many. Only F1 cars allowed. haha..

F1 Toilets and F1 Signage

A walk around the the race circuit you can see things are almost done. Signs are up.

Portable toilets are ready too.

Has anyone used this kind of portable toilets? I have always wondered how they look inside, but never really want to open the doors. haha..

Credit Suisse clients will be at the BMW Sauber Paddock, with seats costing SGD7500, with free flow of champagne and gourmet banquet.

RBS clients will be at a cocktail event at the Old Supreme Court building, mingling with 3 time world champion Jackie Stewart.

Citi Singapore will be hosting a Stylo Fashion Grand Prix Gala.

SG Private customers will be cruising in a private yatch along the Southern Islands.

The Esplanade Roof and the Singapore F1 Grandstand Seats...

I thought these covered F1 grandstand chairs looks similar to the Esplanade Theatre's 'durian spikes'.

Maybe it's only my eyes...
