Typical Singapore Breakfast

What's that? It's dark soy sauce, pepper and light soy sauce in tiny plastic bottles.

Many older folks like to have this for their breakfast. Actually young ones too!
Toasts with "kaya" and half boiled eggs.

This egg looks yummy? Usually it's poured into a saucer and mixed with dark or light soy sauce and pepper. I like mine plain. Just like in the picture below.

What's your favourite breakfast?

My breakfast got variety wan. Besides the half boiled eggs and kaya toast, I might have nasi lemak, bah chor mee soup, prawn noodles, prata, pork porridge, chay tau kuay, tau huey, mee siam, dimsum, vegetarian beehoon, McDonald's Big breakfast....etc. Insert 'or' in between each item lah! hehe... the convenience of living in Singapore.

I LOVE kaya on fresh white bread, but can't say I've ever had it with egg.

And your photo of the boiled egg waiting to be doused with soy sauce reminds me of my childhood - I always used to have this for breakfast at my aunty's house, and often at home too. My mum is from Malaysia.

half boiled egg! I assume you mean what we call soft boiled egg -- one where the yolk is still a bit runny [as opposed to a hard boiled egg.
A nice breakfast consists of a couple of soft-boiled head with their heads sliced off -- slices of nicely toasted sliced bread cut into strips -- called soldiers. We would dip our soldiers in the egg and scoop it out. All washed down with a nice pot of tea [Earl Grey preferred].
Yummy.

We don't have half boiled eggs but we do have eggs sunnyside up, which is how I take my eggs.

My grandmother used to make half boiled eggs and home-made kaya.

I tried kaya toast and half boiled eggs at Gleneagles Hospital in Singapore (where my sister delivered a baby boy) and loved it.
Our breakfast is usually parathas(Indian bread) with chutney and yogurt, or idlis and dosas. It could be eggs or sandwiches too.

I would prefer mine without the soy sauce since soy sauce makes one retain water, me especially. I can only take soy sauce every now and then. The egg looks tasty though!

I'm going to go have one right now! Yum. So where have you been all week?

the diff between soft boiled egg and half boiled, is that the soft boiled egg the white is hard but the yolk is soft, for the half boiled egg the whole egg is soft.

i prefer the half boiled egg with kaya toast, loads of pepper and a touch of dark soy... yummy!!! the sweetness of the kaya and the egg and the spices together. Die, die must try!..
