Tourist Series - Orchard Road

There are street names that are famous for a particular city. They are so called streets that tourist "must visit" to qualify themselves as visited that city. Hmmm wonder if that statement is true...

Like in London, you got to visit Oxford Street. In Melbourne, Swanston Street. In Kuala Lumpur, Bintang Walk. In Paris, Champs Elysees.

What about Singapore? Everyone knows that if you wanna shop, you must go to Orchard Road. Hey, there is even a website for it! www.orchardroad.sg

What streets or roads in your city is a "must see" for tourist?

For Boston, I think probably Newbury Street would be the answer...

C'est peu le 'times square' de singapore.
A evry, la place de l'europe ou se trouve la mairie et la cathedrale.
Mais il n'y a pas vie la nuit a Evry.

It is little the 'times square' of singapore. With evry, the place of Europe or is the town hall and the cathedral. But there is not life the night has Evry.

I am a Singaporean and I would say Orchard Road too since Singapore is so well known for shopping. Just wanted to say that I really enjoy looking at the high quality pictures on your site. They are really interesting and I always look forward to your new pics.

i'm not sure if it's a destination but a famous intersection here in Winnipeg is Portage Ave. and Main St. I'm not sure why it's famous but it's known for being cold and very windy! Neil Young has bad song that he sings about it (with Randy Bachman) :]

Fay, thanks for the info. Boston and Newbury Street will be one of the holidays destination hopefully these few years.

Olivier, not really Time Sq, but shops do not open past 9.30 pm on most days. But the last Friday of the month, the shops in Orchard Road do have late nite shopping till midnite. Singapore do have lots of Cathedrals and churches too. The next series maybe :-p

Thanks Jazzy. You take great pictures too!

Yes Min. The places you mention will show the multiculturalism of Singapore.

Thanks Shanti. Glad you dropped a drop by and thanks for dropping comments too.

Kris, you are a shopping queen izit? hahah...

Zannnie, yey, i got it correct. i just thought that you wont wake up so early to take photos, so i guessed sunset :-p

Mike C, had a friend who studied in Winnipeg and they said it is freezing there. So I can just imagine this freezing intersection. hehe...

It's not quite freezing yet. It will be soon. They built an underground mall a long time ago so people didn't have to go outside as much in the winter. There are no crosswalks at the intersection so the only way to cross the street there is to go down through the mall! It's a little strange and disorienting.

we have underground malls too. hmmm how cold is freezing? minus zero degrees?

a must see place in vantaa would have to be the heureka science centre area Tikkurila. The well known shopping districts are in Helsinki, Aleksanterinkatu.

haha. yes, water freezes at zero degrees but in the middle of the winter here it can go from -10 to -35 degrees! That's what we call "freezing" :)
