Selamat Hari Raya Haji / Eid Ul Alha

Wishing all Muslim friends a Happy Eid Ul Alha!

In Singapore, we call it Selamat Hari Raya Haji in the local Malay language.

Abraham's willingness to sacrifice Isaac on Mt. Moriah is indeed an event worthy to be remembered. Abraham is, as the Christian scriptures say, the father of us all; Jew, Christian and Muslim. Too bad we can't start with this shared parentage as a starting point to discuss theological differences. Instead, we seem to start with the difference and deny our shared history. Talk about the ultimate disfunctional family!

Ab's impatience and taking things into his own hands might be the reason too.

You are so right. He was no plastic saint but all too human. But, I don't think that is what the celebration is about. Rather, he subdued that rebellious, do it my way, streak and obeyed God. That is the part to celebrate, embrace and emulate, don't you think?
